New ways to understand what is happening on the shop floor

Alongside our engineering service lines, we research technology that helps industry understand its machines, processes and data. We have several projects in the pipeline. This page shows the ones we can share.

Separate from our service lines, run with the same discipline

R&D is where we test new technology before anything is offered as a product or a work package.

Separate

R&D projects sit apart from the aerospace and defence work packages we deliver for customers.

Evidence first

We mark a capability as working only once we have tested it, the same way we treat verification evidence.

Open status

Each project states what works today, what is in development and what is planned.

With industry

We develop with real shops. Pilot partners help decide what we build next.

BSE Machine Monitoring

CNC machine monitoring for machine shops. It reads each machine's control and shows, machine by machine, what is running, what has stopped, the condition reported by the control and the reason the operator gives. From that come machine utilisation, downtime tracking and OEE. The collector, screens and operator tablet work today in our lab; OEE accuracy is being checked before we use it at a customer, and it is not yet installed on a customer's machine.
